Coronavirus and Domestic Abuse

Following the recent guidance from the government to try and restrict the spread of the coronavirus there have been significant limitations placed on our usual lives. Of particular concern to anyone who is suffering from domestic abuse is the strict message from the government that we should all stay at home except for limited reasons not to do so. Victims of domestic abuse may therefore feel trapped and isolated due to the current restrictions.

Domestic abuse can include, but is not limited to, the following:

–  Coercive control (a pattern of intimidation, degradation, isolation and control with the use or threat of physical or sexual violence)
–  Psychological and/or emotional abuse
–  Physical or sexual abus
–  Financial or economic abus
–  Harassment and stalking
–  Online or digital abuse

Here at Robinsons Solicitors our view is very simple – regardless of the coronavirus outbreak no one should have to suffer domestic abuse and feel that they cannot access help at this time. We appreciate that more so than ever victims may be feeling alone and that they are not currently able to reach out to anyone for advice and assistance.

Therefore, and if you experiencing domestic abuse at this extremely difficult time, then please do not hesitate to contact us and our experienced and understanding family law team will provide you with practical advice about what you can do if you find yourself in such a situation. Even though the whole country is dealing with the coronavirus outbreak we are still here to help you and we are still able to apply to the court to obtain urgent injunctions (such as a non molestation order and/or occupation order) to protect you and your children.

In certain circumstances we may also be able to provide you with free legal advice and representation (subject to you qualifying for legal aid).
